Dr. Gary Swain joined Northside Hospital in 2023. After completing his undergraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Swain attended Harvard Medical School where he graduated with the prestigious Presidential Scholars Award and was also recognized with the school’s top award for community service. He then completed his residency in Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital while simultaneously earning his MBA from Yale School of Management. With his board certification by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Swain specializes in acute care and general surgery with skill in both conventional open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery. He also has a strong interest in hernia surgery. Additionally, Dr. Swain is bilingual and can communicate with patients in both English and Spanish.
Dr. Swain is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. His past research interests include healthcare operations decision-analytic modeling, simulation, cost effectiveness, and resource allocation. During his time in practice, Dr. Swain has been involved in administration and has served on several committees focused on patient safety, quality assurance, and process improvement. Dr. Swain has a passion for improving healthcare systems which would allow greater access to high-quality surgical care to diverse and underserved communities.
