Born in 1959 in Metairie, Louisiana, Dr. George Shaak earned his Doctor of Medicine in New Orleans in 1984. Dr. Shaak completed his General Surgery residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock Arkansas in 1989.
Upon completion of his General Surgery residency, Dr. Shaak practiced in Jackson, MS from 1989-1995. While in Mississippi, he served as chief of surgery at both Rankin Medical Center and River Oaks Hospital. In 1995 Dr. Shaak relocated to Atlanta, GA and has been on active staff at Northside Hospital and Emory/St. Joseph Hospital since his arrival. At Northside Hospital, he served as chief of general surgery, vice-chief of surgery and chief of surgery.
Dr. Shaak is board certified in general surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Shaak is married with two grown sons. He is an avid runner completing numerous marathons, including the six World Major Marathons-Boston, New York, Chicago, Berlin, London, and Tokyo. He also has run the Peachtree Road Race 20 times. He and his wife enjoy hiking, biking, and travel.
